Since achieving BS ISO14001 for Environmental Management in 2010, Greenlands has gone on to implement numerous systems to continue to improve its sustainability; segregating waste for recycling has been common practice on the estate for many years.
In January 2011, Greenlands started working alongside kompost ltd to divert all uncooked food waste via specially designed wormeries. The resulting worm casts went back into the gardens of the estate to bolster productivity.
In June 2012, Greenlands stepped it up a notch by investing in two in-vessel composters. These komposter™ units are able to process cooked and uncooked food waste and, instead of having the food waste collected and sent to an anaerobic digester many miles away, it is now composted on site.
In the summer of 2013, Greenlands went full circle by establishing raised beds, with its own compost, to grow herbs for the kitchen.
In early 2014, the housekeeping staff began working with CleanConscience, to redirect their waste soap and toiletries from landfill and incinerators. Waste hand-soaps are collected and re-purposed into new bars for redistribution to reduce disease in areas of the world where hygiene is extremely poor. Part-used bottled toiletries are also collected. Any remaining product is removed and re-purposed, allowing the empty plastic bottles to be diverted from landfill and sent to an EfW facility.
This was a FIRST for the UK hospitality industry and Greenlands is proud to be at the forefront of this innovative new recycling initiative.

When ADA Cosmetics International acquired Pacific Direct, and two warehouses had to be merged into one, it was a good time to do a proper stock take and let go of any product not complying with the new branding; this resulted in 7 pallets of redundant stock that needed to be redistributed. On another occasion, just before the COVID lockdown in March 2020, 18 pallets of stock, close to their use by date, were donated for us to redistribute, rather than letting it run out of date.
